Tabarca,is an island , just a few kilometers away from Alicante, on the Mediterranean Sea. It was a slip angle for pirates, but now a major tourist attraction.
About 20 km north of Alicante lies the city of Jijona or Xixona in Valencia. Jijona is famous in Spain for its turron. Turron is a sweet made of sugar, honey almonds and eggs. You will find in abundance during Christmas. So, if you want your children to know what it really feels like to be in a chocolate factory. Bring them here. A word of caution though, Jijona is in operation from mid June to mid December. At the outskirts of the city is the Torronmuseum. This private museum is dedicated to the nougat and marzipan industry. The museum offers a guided tour and gives you an overview of the various sweets they offer and the methods of making them as they have evolved over centuries.
The Alicante harbor is another place that interests many tourists. The Plaza de Sotelo, from which the Avenida del Doctor Gadea leads down to a spacious harbor, protected by its back waters.
