Destination Guide for Alicante Spain

Alicante is one of the fastest growing cities of Spain. The local economy is based upon the tourism from the beaches of Costa Blanca. Ciudad de la Luz, on of the largest film studios in Europe is in Alicante. Many Spanish and international movies have been shot here.

Alicante's unique location between the hills and the sea makes it what it is today. Whether you are looking for a fulfilled or adventure holiday, a holiday in a picturesque locale, a holiday discovering the history and its' influence in the formation of a town or just want to relax in peace and tranquility, Alicante and its surrounding towns are the place to be. Although this is a small town, you definitely owe it more than just a weekend. Be it a family vacation or a honeymoon or a vacation all by yourself.
In Alicante, there is something for everyone, from local crafts to designer labels. In winter, you can find anything from pottery, decorative items, jewelry to casual clothes along the Expalnada or the Paseo del Doctor Gadea.

Alicante is particularly famous for its rugs, toys, leather goods and totally handcrafted pottery and woven basketwork items. However, a word of caution, make sure you are buying the original as the best always has replicas!!

Alicante is 179 kms on AP-7 South from Valencia.
It is 83 kms north from Murcia in A-7.

Rail Route From the A-7, Mediterranean Coast Highway, there are several exits into the city. This highway surrounds the town. The N- III highway comes directly from Madrid.
Climate

Alicante enjoys the Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures throughout the year and little rain mainly in September and October.

Airport Alicante aiport is located 12 kms from the town. It is one of the busiest airports of Spain and is well connected internationally and domestically.
Transportation

Alicante Railway network is also well established linking Alicante to suburban Murcia. RENFE trains run frequently to Madrid and Barcelona.
Alicante also has tram services to Costa Blanca, Benidom and Denia. Hence, getting to Alicante is no problem.
However, hiring a Taxi or Car of your choice and suiting your requirement is always advisable, when on a vacation. You could get a wide range to choose from even at the last minute. Last minute car hire offers such services in most tourist destinations in Spain.
